Slides
If you wish to use the slide collection, please contact the
VRF staff for and introduction and orientation to the collection
and its policies. We ask that slides remain in the library until
the time of presentation and be returned immediately after the
presentation. If you need an exception to this rule, you must
discuss this in advance with the VRF staff. At the time of the
orientation, you will be assigned a circulation card.
Digital images
VRF slides can not be duplicated or scanned. Faculty,
instructors or graduate students needing digitized images or
scanned slides must discuss this request in advance with the
curatorial staff. When possible, VRF staff will provide scans
and digital images but only after consultation and review. Turn-around
time must be negotiated with the curatorial staff at the time
of request. Mediaworks will not scan VRF slides without prior
permission from the curatorial staff.
VRF image database
The Visual Resource Facillity's Image Database provides access to the Department's digital image and media collections.
Please note that the VRF Image Database is currently under reconstruction and is subject to modifications.
Anyone can access the Image Database online. Only campus users or individuals with login passwords can view images. Thumbnail (144 pixels) and medium images (800 pixels) are accessible throughout campus for any user without a password. Students and faculty wanting access to larger image files (up to 2048 pixels) must apply for a password with the Visual Resource Facility staff or visit the Visual Resource Facility in Art 203 where large files are viewable and downloadable.
The Image Database is intended for educational purposes only and is subject to copyright restrictions. These materials may not be used for other purposes without permission from the Visual Resource Facility staff.
Periodicals
The VRF maintains a subscribtion to Artforum, Art
in America and Sculpture.
Periodicals are all library use only.
Videos and DVDs
The VRF has over 200 videos and DVDs. This collection is now
searchable online in the Image Database. Select the Format you want under Advanced Search.
Faculty & Instructor Loan Policy
Faculty and instructors may check out videos and DVDs for 1 quarter.
We reserve the right to request the return of this material
sooner if another patron needs them for classroom use. Videos
and DVDs can be placed on reserve in the VRF for class viewing
in the VRF.
Student
Loan Policy
Students may view videos and DVDs in the Visual Resource Facility. With the permission of a faculty member, undergraduate students may remove videos from the Visual Resources Facility for
extended use.
Reference books
Reference materials, like periodicals, are library use only.
MA theses
The VRF retains a copy of all completed Art History MA Thesis.
This collection is searchable online in the Image Database. Select Thesis under Format in the Advanced Search.
SERVICES
Photographic services and digitization
VRF staff provide copy photography (35mm slides) and scanning
(slides and flatbed) for department faculty, instructors and
graduate students. We ask for 2 to 3 weeks advance notice for
new additions. All slide produced at VRF expense belong to the
Visual Resources Facility. Each book request must be accompanied
by a photography request form available in the VRF Library.
Copy photography should adhere to copyright law and contribute
to the growth and mission of the VRF; we reserve the right to
deny any request that compromises VRF policy and its mission.
While we are not are not able to shoot student art work, we
do maintain a list of local photographers who provide this service.
Course web pages and online reserves
The VRF supports department course web pages and online image
reserves. All pages are password protected in keeping with Fair
Use guidelines.
Reference support
VRF staff is available to assist patrons in VRF equipment usage
and will provide limited training in various software tools,
such as presentation and imaging softwares. In addition, VRF
staff provide art and art history reference support for its
users. So that we can best serve you, we ask that you contact
us in advance.
