UC Catalogs & Databases
Peter J. Shields Library

· Harvest: The UC Davis Library Catalog
The Harvest: Library Catalog is the main finding tool for items owned or made available by the UC Davis General Library (Shields, Physical Sciences & Engineering, Carlson Health Sciences, UC Davis Medical Center and Agricultural and Resource Economics Libraries). It contains records for books, periodical and journal titles, archives, music scores, maps, government documents and other materials at the General Library. It does not include materials at the UC Davis Law Library or the Institute of Governmental Affairs.

The Harvest: Library Catalog does not contain journal articles. If you want to find journal articles by subject, author or title, use one of the electronic databases subscribed to by the Library. You may use the subject guides linked to the Library's home page to help you choose a database. Many of the electronic databases contain records that connect to the full text of a journal article. For help using Harvest, see Getting Started

· E-Journals Catalog
Note: Most databases are quickly accessible from UC Davis IP Addresses.

· UCD Course Reserves Catalog

· Videos and DVDs on the UC Davis campus. see Finging Images: Videos
Videos are held in multiple places on the UC Davis campus, so not all of them will be visible in Library catalogs like Harvest or Melvyl. Each location has its own policies, so patrons should be aware of the differences among the collections. The two largest sources of video on campus are housed at the Information and Educational Technology (IET) Media Distribution Lab in Hart Hall and the University Library.
  · Hart Media Distribution Lab Database [1101 Hartt Hall]
ET-CTS operates the largest collection of videos on campus, with several thousand titles. Instructors can reserve materials via the web or by phone.
· Harvest
The Library holds several hundred titles in VHS and DVD formats, purchased for the purpose of research, instruction, and local collection subject interests. The Harvest catalog (UC Davis holdings only) and Melvyl (all UC libraries) will only tell you which videos are held in the library system (NOT the Hart Hall Media Lab or other UC Davis campus collections). To search the Harvest Catalog for videos go to "Advanced Search" and limit by Format to "Videorecordings." You can also limit only to VHS or DVD. Shields Reserve Services (1st floor) holds most videos in the UC Davis Library system, but the science libraries and Special Collections also own some titles.
Most videos in Shields Library are kept in Reserve Services, and can typically circulate to UC Davis cardholders. There is no public viewing equipment in the library, however, so patrons must either use their own equipment or visit the Hart Hall Media lab to use the players located there.
For more information, contact Diana King, Librarian at Shields Library.
· LGBT Center , Women's Resources and Research Center (WRRC), CrossCultural Center

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center, the WRRC, and the Cross Cultural Center have small collections of videos on relevant gender and sexuality topics. The WRRC also houses a selection of videos on disability studies, and also has a print list of titles. Currently, the best way to find out about titles in these collections is to visit the Centers, or to browse the film resources lists on the UC Davis Sexuality Studies page.
· Visual Resource Facility Video Database
The VRF has approximately 200 VHS, DVDs and U-Matic tapes available on art and art related topics. See Media Collections for circulation and access. Note: this database is temporary. An improved database and search engine are under construction.

University of California Libraries and the California Digital Library
  · MELVYL: Catalog of the University of California Libraries
If you do not find the item you are looking for in Harvest: Library Catalog, try searching for materials at other University of California (UC) libraries using the Melvyl Catalog. UC Davis Library materials are included in the Melvyl Catalog along with materials from all the other UCs. UC students, faculty, and staff may use Melvyl to request circulating items from other UC campuses.
· Calisphere (UC)
Calisphere is the University of California's free public gateway to a world of primary sources. More than 150,000 digitized items — including photographs, documents, newspaper pages, political cartoons, works of art, diaries, transcribed oral histories, advertising, and other unique cultural artifacts — reveal the diverse history and culture of California and its role in national and world history. Calisphere's content has been selected from the libraries and museums of the UC campuses, and from a variety of cultural heritage organizations.
